This is the first gallery of our road trip, we left home on 6th August 2007 and arrived in Calais on 7th August. We then went to the Normandy beaches, la Rochelle, Lege Cap Ferret, Bergerac and then Chamonix on 23rd August.

elaineandandandrew > We arrived in Calais around 1am on 7th August. Afer spending quite a while trying to find a place to stop overnight, we found the place listed in our camper stop guide only to find it full. In desperation we parked under what we believed to be a sign saying no campers and settled down for our first nights sleep or what was left of it. Having had a disturbed sleep we awoke to find this great view in glorious sunshine.

elaineandandandrew > The American cemetery in Arromanches, below the cemetery the Omaha beach where so many men lost their lives. The weather wasn't kind to us on the day we visited, but it seemed appropriate some how. We would certainly defy anyone to walk amongst the graves and not be moved.

elaineandandandrew > This sign made us laugh and reminded us of our chubby friend Craig, it is a camp site on route to La Rochelle. We later found that there were many more such sites and resturants. Has he invested all over the World we ask ? and do they sell more than mars bars, ready meals and cider.
